This role is a member of Rainier’s Seattle-based international small/mid-cap investment team and reports to the fund’s portfolio manager. The position will be a generalist research analyst, meaning he/she is expected to research investment opportunities in numerous industries and geographies. The fund seeks to identify companies with sustainable competitive advantages and exhibiting positive fundamental change.
Conduct independent, fundamental research on small- and mid-cap public companies outside of the U.S. (~$500m to $5B USD market cap.)
Present company research conclusions to investment team on a timely basis.
Debate and challenge team member’s research assumptions and conclusions for investment in securities across all industries and countries.
Prepare concise company write-ups with all relevant data to support investment conclusion.
Travel internationally to meet with company management if desired or further research is necessary.
Extensive company management call schedule expected.
The analyst is expected to have experience conducting fundamental, independent research and recommendation of investment ideas across numerous industries and geographies.
At least 5 years of experience in global or international equity research.
Proficiency in English required and experience in other foreign languages and cultures is highly desired.
Strong quantitative, statistical and analytical thinking skills. Ability to understand complex topics and quickly transform them into clear, simple explanations.
Excellent presentation and written communication skills; including the ability to organize and present thoughtful, clear and data-driven arguments.
Ability to understand and triangulate business case in a timely fashion.
CFA & MBA desirable
Proficient with Microsoft Office
The team uses Bloomberg, so proficiency is preferred. If thorough research is performed on other software, that is more than appropriate. The focus is on the quality of the research, not the software used.
Intense curiosity and interest in numerous industries, countries and cultures; a highly thoughtful disposition with constant desire to learn.
Ability to succeed in a small team while multi-tasking and managing multiple functions.
Self-starter with high energy and initiative.
Overtime and some travel will be required; flexibility is a must.
